Human Life Standard.
The "HLS”
A principle that every decision made by the government must improve the quality of life, of every Washington, D.C. citizen.
It creates a city where “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” are not privileges, they are guarantees.
Under the HLS, Washington, D.C. stops managing crises and begins building systems that prevent them, ensuring every household has the chance to not just survive, but to thrive.
It realigns our government around the wellbeing of it’s residents by driving policy decisions that are transparent, measurable, and accountable.
Housing & Commerce.
The Human Life Standard begins where people live and where they earn their livelihood.
Washingtonians deserve affordable housing, safe housing, and stable housing. They deserve commercial corridors where local businesses thrive, where storefronts are filled, and where opportunity is rooted in community, not pushed out by speculation.
Under my administration, we will build housing that is truly affordable, reform permitting and construction timelines, and protect legacy residents and small businesses from displacement.
A city where people live and work must be a city where people can stay.
Education & Opportunity.
If a child in Ward 8 does not have the same path as a child in Ward 3, then the city is failing its own future.
The HLS demands equal access, to early childhood programs, to strong public schools, to mentorship, to apprenticeships, and to youth employment that opens doors rather than closes them.
We will expand after-school programming, restore vocational pipelines, and create partnerships that lift youth toward purpose, not peril.
Our young people should not have to leave the city to find opportunity.
Public Safety & Government Operations
Safety must never be rooted in fear it must be rooted in trust.
Residents deserve a city where accountability is real, where justice protects people rather than punishes poverty, and where agencies operate with the efficiency and clarity that people deserve.
We will modernize government operations, increase transparency across public safety agencies, expand mental-health interventions, and restore the relationship between community and law enforcement.
A safe city is one where people feel protected not prosecuted.
Civic Access & Efficiency
Government should not feel like a maze.
Too many residents spend months trying to get a permit, fix a problem, or receive a simple service. The Human Life Standard demands a system that honors people’s time.
We will streamline city services, modernize technology, strengthen public communication, and simplify the resident experience.
A city that works for the people must also work with the people.
Economic Growth & Prosperity
Growth means nothing if only a few feel it.
Under the HLS, economic success is measured not by how many cranes rise in the skyline, but by how many households feel secure financially, emotionally, and practically.
We will support small businesses, protect consumers, promote local entrepreneurship, reform contracting to be fair and transparent, and build an economy where Washingtonians can flourish without being pushed to the margins.
True growth is shared growth.
Human Wellbeing
A city’s greatness is found in the wellbeing of its people.
The Human Life Standard places emotional, physical, financial, and community health at the center of governance. That means expanding healthcare access, expanding mental health supports, supporting seniors and families, and ensuring that every person has the chance not just to survive but to thrive.
Human wellbeing is not optional. It is the mission.
